Mom wants answers after son with autism struck by substitute teacher – WGN-TV

CHICAGO — The mom of a 7-yr-previous boy with autism wants answers after she says her son was hit at a CPS faculty.

Paulie Vaca’s mom Holley Cornwell-Vaca says her son won’t ever return to Hendricks Community Academy.  Her son is okay however she says she will’t consider extra isn’t being achieved.

“He’s happy. He’s not an aggressive, mean kid,” Holley says.  “He is non-verbal.  And he has cognitive issues social issues.”

Paulie is in 1st grade at Hendricks and is enrolled in a particular wants class.  Holley says up till final week she had been completely satisfied with the varsity.  But that modified after a name from the principal days after an incident on the faculty.

The principal stated a substitute hit her son however wouldn’t say the place.

Paulie had been having some points and kicked a teacher, his mother says.  Other than being advised that, CPS and the principal have stonewalled her, saying solely the incident is beneath investigation.

“It’s been over a week later and I don’t know anything,” Holley stated.  “That’s a problem. The principal lied to me.  Something should have been done already.  My son got hurt.  Nothing was done and nobody told me anything.”

The district suspended the 2 substitute classroom aides and banned them from the classroom whereas it investigates. But Holley solely discovered that after reporters advised her.

The district informed stated in a press release at present, “Student wellbeing is  our top priority and we take seriously any allegations of student mistreatment… The district has instituted a thorough investigation into the matter.”
